IRIS Planning a Test

Imagine you’ve got a new promo for a front-end newsletter. It’s edgy and controversial compared to the control. It’s hard to know which promo will do better overall, but most of your lists are more traditional while others tend to go for sensational copy. Still, you could be surprised, so you test it. Use these steps to set up a test to determine whether your new test promo is stronger than your control promo.
How to Create a Testing Group
- From the Testing Groups screen Click in the upper left corner.
The Testing Group Dialog box will appear, complete the following fields:
Type Select the type of efforts that will be tested. Either paid or lead gen. Category Select a category that describes the element of marketing that’s being tested. Some standard categories are populated for you, but you are free to create any you’d like Name Enter a name for your testing group that is a succinct name that’s descriptive enough to differentiate it from other tests Sub Testing Group Click <to add as many subgroups as there are types of marketing being pitted against each other. Clicking the will remove the sub groups.
Marketing Notes This is a free-form description field to cover anything your team should know about this test that was too many characters to fit into the name. This is a great place to note the goal of the test and any statistics you decide you want to analyze. Click at the bottom of the popup to create the testing group.
You can create a new testing group directly from the Efforts page, too. Just check the Testing Group checkbox found at the bottom of the page in Options, then click ‘Add’ to access the same popup to create a new group.
Testing Group creation can also be accessed from the Create menu in the navigation bar.
