How to Report Phishing in Outlook

Summary / TL:DR: This article explains how to report a phishing email in Outlook

What is Phishing and Why is Reporting it Important?

Phishing emails appear to come from a legitimate source, but in reality, are a cyberattack intended to
trick users into divulging sensitive data, or downloading malware. They often masquerade as major institutions contacting you about a shipment or document you weren’t expecting, a problem with your account; or as an executive you’re your company urgently requesting money, etc. Any unexpected emails that request you to click on a hyperlink should be considered suspicious.

One of the best defenses to stop phishing attacks is you. By being weary of unexpected communications you can protect yourself and others within our organization. When (not if) you receive suspect emails, never click on a link, and use the “Mimecast Report Phishing” button in Outlook to report it. By reporting, our I.T. staff will help determine if it is legitimate, and if it is malicious block the email and the sender from reaching you or your colleagues in the future.
