VMWare Horizon Migration

Summary / TL:DR: This article will show you how to access Horizon RDS hosted applications and add a new Connection Server in the VMWare Horizon Client.

On the evening of June 11th 2022 starting at 9 pm, the Eng/Ops Team will be migrating to a newer version of Horizon for connection to RDS hosted applications.

How will this affect me?

Anyone that uses the VMWare Horizon Client to access RDS hosted applications, such as Advantage and Remote Desktop Connection, will need to add the new Connection Server. Beginning June 11h 2022, opening “hrzn.14west.us” will be necessary to access RDS applications.

NOTE: Employees that use Horizon Client to access a VDI (sometimes referred to as a VM or Virtual Desktop) will continue to use the existing “horizon.14west.us” connection server to access it until further notice.

Not sure if you use RDS hosted applications or VDI/VM?

RDS hosted applications look like this:

VDI/VMs look like this:

How to add a new Connection Server

  1. Open the VMWare Horizon Client

  2. Select Add Server

  3. Enter hrzn.14west.us and click Connect

  4. When prompted enter your AGORA login

  5. When prompted enter the OneLogin Protect code from your phone app

  6. You will then be presented with the Horizon applications portal. All the applications that you were entitled to in the previous environment will now be available through this new environment.

  7. You can remove the old Connection Server by reopening the Client, clicking on the three dots (…) under horizon.14west.us and selecting Delete
